September 9th, 2011 / No Comments » / by Faizan
Previously I shared a post on Calibrating Htc Desire Battery, but after upgrading to MIUI rom that method didn’t worked anymore and phone started to shutdown at 15% battery left, even after repeating several times. While searching for a solution on internet, I found following method that worked (thanks to xda forums).
This method can work for any rooted android device, all you have to do is to set correct full40 value depending on the charge capacity of your device’s battery.

August 1st, 2011 / No Comments » / by Faizan
After long wait, HTC has released official Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for HTC Desire. Because of memory limitations in HTC Desire, they have remove unnecessary apps and squeezed it down to fit in available space of HTC Desire. Secondly it is released as a developer build only for developers and not for general public because you’ll loose all customizations and operator settings. So if you’re an advanced user you may want to give it a try.

While official Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for HTC Desire is not out yet and it may take couple of month before HTC starts rolling it out, xda member LeeDroid has released custom Gingerbread rom for HTC Desire with HTC Sense. Today, I installed this rom on my HTC Desire and so far its looks awesome, navigation is much more smoother then Froyo, GMT+6 bug for Pakistan is fixed, updated version of default software, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and FM are working fine. I’ve done some benchmarks to compare performance of this gingerbread rom with my previous Android 2.2 Froyo Vs Eclair benchmark.

Android 2.3 is not yet officially released for any phone like Nexus 1 or HTC Desire but because Android is an Open Source OS and its SDK is available, developers have managed to extract its keyboard and made it available for Android 2.2 Froyo Users.
Prerequisites
1. you must have rooted your phone, check this thread on XDA forums. It has a nice guide on How To root your root your phone using Unrevoked.
2. ClockworkMod recovery must be installed. To install it first install ROM Manager by ColockworkMod from android market place and then install ColockworkMod recovery by opening Rom Manager.
